There was only one William born in Ombersley 1848 ± 2 and on the 1851, 1861, 1871, 1891 and 1901 censuses. The 1851 and 1861 censuses record him as the son of John and Mary, the 1871 as a servant and the 1891 and 1901 censuses as the head of the family with Harriet his wife. There were two on the 1881: one as the unmarried son of John and Mary, his daughter Elizabeth was given as granddaughter to the head, the other the husband of Harriet with daughter Harriet. William the son of John was married twice in Ombersley; to Eliza LINTON on 5 Nov 1872, they had a daughter Elizabeth before Eliza died in 1875. He then married Harriet ROSTINS on 9 Sep 1878 when his condition was a widower. Our conclusion is that there is only one William who married twice. Why he was enumerated twice in 1881 and why on his parents return he his given as unmarried is not known.
