  • In October, 1889, his excellent work was alluded to by the Recorder and the Grand and Petty Juries at the Quarter Sessions. This had reference to the apprehending of five men for stealing and receiving property. In recognition of the splendid service he then rendered, the Recorder presented him with £5, and the Watch Committee promoted him to the position of detective-sergeant.
